new webpage: Jeffree White Productions

The Hot Club has a new webpage as part of a website focused on Jeffree White's current, various offerings and services: Jeffree White Productions. Did you know that Jeffree also runs a bluegrass band, plays in a pirate-themed band(!), runs a music school in Washougal, and was a talent buyer for a nightclub for years?  Now there is a hub for these in one place.

While we'll continue to play clubs and wine bars, we're continuing to prioritize private gigs, and Jeffree's working on introducing his services to the market around where he lives in SW Washington. For anyone seeking live music for their event, please consider consulting Jeffree White Productions, which can either offer or find the right act to fit!  www.jeffreewhiteproductions.com

CD Released!

In March & October 2017, two lineups of the Hot Club of Hawthorne went into the
various studios of Fremont Recording — two very different sonic environments —
and performed live in the studio; it was mixed to tape for an organic sound.  The
result is a diverse collection of tracks, presented just as it was performed: no overdubs or
post-production alterations, other than EQ and compression.

One session, recorded in a compact basement studio, included an expanded lineup
of 7 musicians:
  • Jeffree White (founder): guitar, vocals
  • Jason Reichert (Down Home Music, the Juleps): guitar, vocals
  • Rick King (Steer Crazy, Inspirational Beets): guitar, vocals
  • Jeffrey Reynolds (Down Home Music): violin
  • Steve Cleveland (Hot Club Time Machine): accordion
  • Ralph Carney (Tom Waits, Pepper Grinders): clarinet, saxophone
  • Drew Nelson (Vagabond Opera): bass
The other session featured standard instrumentation for the Hot Club: two guitars,
violin, upright bass:
  • Jeffree White: guitar, vocals
  • Twayn Williams (Jenny Finn Orchestra, Hot Club Du Jour): guitar
  • Flauren Ricketts (Lulu's Wing, Rain or Shine): violin, harmony vocals
  • Bernardo Gomez (every swing band in town): bass
Brud Giles engineered, mixed, and mastered, as well as sponsored the endeavor through Fremont Recording.

14 songs were captured, including swing numbers from 1922 or earlier, gypsy
traditionals, a Brazilian choro standard, and a waltz:
  1. Whispering
  2. Stumbling
  3. Songe D'Automne
  4. Avalon
  5. Sheik of Araby
  6. Cesar Swing
  7. Tico Tico
  8. Some of These Days
  9. St. Louis Blues
  10. Alabama Jubilee
  11. Swing Gitan
  12. Rose Room
  13. World is Waiting for the Sunrise
  14. Limehouse Blues
Check this post, or the music page, later for details on how to buy the album as a CD or digital downloads!

Testimonial

We received a lovely testimonial from Dingo the clown after a gig we did together:

We just did a clown gig alongside HCoH, and they were perfect Portland style mellow minstrels. They would be great at any Portland themed event like a wedding. They play favorites (like "Blue Skies") and I love that these guys look like the music they play. Really swanky. They kept me sane while our zone was a fiasco. The most touching moment today was seeing an elderly person in a wheelchair, swaying while wearing and old school conical clown hat. Eyes shut experiencing the band playing a song featuring some gypsy fiddle. The music styles were antique and that was a perfect hit. If I had the funds, I would want to hire this band to play for those folks once a week.

Thanks Dingo! Check out the website for Dingo and his partner Olive at oliveanddingo.com.

audio page upgrade; new photo page

We made the audio page much easier to use, including players for each track, and access to the vault in a frame. There are a couple of recent shows in there too, including the one written up in Swing Portland dot com.
The new photo page is just links to our albums on Facebook, and instructions to use the logo for promotional purposes.
